It entered service while Stalin was alive and current plans retire it in the 2050s — a combat aircraft on course to serve for a century, flown today by the grandchildren of its first crews. Duxford’s B-52D flew missions over Vietnam and arrived in 1983, landing on a runway with feet to spare; the American Air Museum was later quite literally designed around its 185-foot wingspan.
