Corrections

Errors are expected to report for duty here, dated and described rather than quietly sent to the back of the hangar.

Log opened · 31 August 2026 · Back-filled · 10 October 2026

This is the compiler-maintained errata log. Readers who spot an error should write to mg@ub.io with the page, the disputed detail and a source where possible.

An honest note on the record: until 10 October 2026 this page said no errata had been logged, although errors had already been found and fixed. The entries below were entered on that date from the site’s change history and its two inventory audits. Each was corrected in the pages on the date shown; none was logged at the time. Newest first. For every change to the site, not only corrections, see Updates.

2026-10-08Museum records and inventories: all 118 museumsA second full audit, checked against each museum’s own collection pages, the Demobbed register and 2025–26 news of arrivals and departures. Three museums listed as open had closed: Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre, Fenland & West Norfolk Aviation Museum and the Highland Aviation Museum. They stay listed, marked closed. Engines, simulators, missiles and models were taken off the aircraft lists, and aircraft that had moved on were taken off the museums they left. Collections that had been listed only by their highlights are now listed in full; Stow Maries, for example, went from one aircraft to eleven. Sources are cited on each museum page.
2026-10-06The Hangar: Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 ‘Black 12’The model stood level on a block under the tail wheel, a misreading of the Hendon display plinth. It now sits in its three-point attitude, 13° tail down, with the tail-wheel tyre on the ground.
2026-10-06The Hangar: Avro Anson C.19 G-AHKXThe cockpit bulkhead poked out through the skin behind the canopy, the roof rails floated above the roof, and window rails ran aft over the cabin sides where photographs show none. All three corrected.
2026-10-06The Hangar: 15 platesThe share images named in the pages’ metadata did not exist, so links to those plates showed no picture. The images were built and published.
2026-10-053D models: Avro Lancaster, Hawker Hurricane, Boeing B-17Published the day before with errors: the Lancaster’s turrets were corrected, its bomb bay shortened and a letter removed from the fin; the Hurricane’s fin flash and the B-17’s chin turret were corrected.
2026-08-30Museum pages: ratingsEach page carried review markup for search engines (AggregateRating) built from Google Places rating counts, which presented other people’s map ratings as reviews of the museum on this site. The markup was removed and the visible figure is now labelled as public map reports.
2026-08-30Home page: research figuresThe page treated about 685,000 public map ratings and the 1,180 visitor reports actually read in full as the same thing. They are now stated separately.
2026-08-30The Compendium: statisticsThe count of aircraft types was blank (it showed a dash; it is 244). The figure of 33 was relabelled as the collections in the Compendium’s ledger, not museums in general.
2026-08-30Aircraft type pages: erasPages showed raw database codes (pio, int, cw, mod) where the era name belonged. They now read Pioneer, Interwar, Cold War and Modern.
2026-08-30Guides: datesSome guides gave a “last modified” date earlier than their publication date. Page dates are now taken from the site’s history, and the build fails if they are out of order.
2026-07-18Collection inventories: 22 of 33 museums auditedAn audit against each museum’s own aircraft list found 58 errors in the inventories published on 11 July. 32 rows were removed: mostly aero-engines, vehicles, simulators, ops rooms and visiting aircraft counted as resident airframes, plus three that were out of date (the Tangmere Meteor F.8 had left the museum, a BBMF Spitfire was destroyed at Coningsby in May 2024, and Sycamore XJ918 had moved from the RAF Museum to the Ulster Aviation Society in 2022). 26 rows were corrected or added. Examples: Woodford’s Vulcan XM602 is a cockpit section only, and its ‘S for Sugar’ is a replica cockpit (R5868 itself is at RAF Museum London). Shuttleworth’s G-BKTH is Sea Hurricane Ib Z7015. Morayvia’s Nimrod XV244 is a complete aircraft, not a cockpit. Gatwick’s Sea Vixen XS587 is a FAW(TT).2, not a TT.8. Sources are cited on each museum page.

Editorial practice

Clear factual errors are corrected in the page and entered here, on the day they are fixed. Routine wording, layout, search-engine tuning and automated build changes are not logged, and nor are changes to 3D models made before they were published. Opening times and admission remain survey snapshots: a venue changing its timetable is not necessarily an error, but the Gazetteer will update the record when a reliable source is available.
