The F7F-3 BuNo 80373 in 3D
A procedural model built in Blender from the type’s published dimensions, painted as Grumman F7F-3 Tigercat BuNo 80373 as displayed at the National Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola, Florida: a single-seat twin-engined carrier and land-based fighter with two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radials in long underslung nacelles, a slim fuselage with the cockpit well forward, a tricycle undercarriage, folding outer wings spanning 15.70 m and the enlarged fin of the later F7F-3s, shown level on its wheels: overall Glossy Sea Blue, a white ‘12’ on both sides of the nose and on the nose-wheel door, a blue name strip below the windscreen reading ‘Maj HARRY "SLIM" JOHNSON’, a large white ‘MARINES’ on the rear fuselage with the ‘F7F-3 80373’ stencil behind it, the 1947 star-and-bar under the starboard wing and ‘MARINES’ under the port wing, and black three-blade propellers with yellow tips (shape from AJ-Press F7F-3 and F7F-3N drawings scaled to the published span and length and checked against photographs of this aircraft; the star on the upper port wing follows standard practice, as no photograph of the upper surfaces was found, and the published height of 5.05 m belongs to the short-finned early Tigercats, so the tall fin follows the drawing).
