Saunders-Roe SR.A/1

A procedural model built in Blender from the type’s published dimensions, painted as TG263, Solent Sky’s Saunders-Roe SR.A/1, the first prototype and the only one of the three left, first flown from Cowes by Geoffrey Tyson on 16 July 1947, last flown in June 1951 and at Southampton since the early 1990s: the world’s first jet-propelled water-based aircraft, a single-seat flying-boat fighter of 46 ft span with two Metropolitan-Vickers Beryl axial turbojets side by side in a deep planing hull, fed through one bifurcated nose intake and exhausting either side of the hull behind the wing, a straight wing with stabilising floats that retract into pods beneath it and a tailplane set high on the fin, shown standing on its beaching gear with twin-wheel legs under the wing roots and a tail wheel, the floats retracted, the hood slid back and a guard over the intake: silver overall, a yellow-ringed Type C1 roundel on each side of the nose with the yellow prototype ‘P’ in a ring behind it, black ‘TG263’ on the rear hull, a red, white and blue fin flash and Type C roundels on the upper wings (the fin flash and wing roundels follow earlier photographs of the same scheme), no under-wing markings.
