Public lanes

RAF Mildenhall is the USAF's tanker and special-operations hub in Britain — KC-135 Stratotankers, MC-130J Commando IIs and CV-22 Ospreys are the usual types. Several public lanes around the perimeter give fence-line views; the western side near the A1101 is popular for tanker launches.

Pair with RAF Lakenheath ten minutes away for a full Suffolk fighter-and-tanker day, then Duxford for preserved aircraft.

Best odds

Weekday operations. Tanker launches often cluster in the morning; Osprey activity is less predictable.

Field craft

Stay on public roads and marked viewing spots. Do not photograph sensitive areas beyond what is visible from public land.
