Wight Quadruplane

A procedural model built in Blender from the type’s published dimensions, painted as N546, the Wight Quadruplane built by J. Samuel White & Co. at Cowes on the Isle of Wight: Howard Wright’s single-seat quadruplane scout of 1916 for the Royal Naval Air Service, four narrow staggered wings of 19 ft span on broad fabric-covered ‘plank’ interplane struts, a 110 hp Clerget rotary in an open-fronted aluminium cowling, a short wheeled chassis and a tall tail skid; shown as the replica at Solent Sky, Southampton, which follows the aircraft’s original 1916 form with ailerons on the three upper wings and a small fin and horn-balanced rudder, though the serial ‘N546’ was only given to its final 1917 rebuild: khaki-green PC10 fuselage, fin and upper surfaces over clear-doped linen undersides, cream plank struts, roundels on the fuselage sides and on top of the upper two wings, blue, white and red rudder stripes, white ‘N546’ on the rear fuselage and red wheel covers.
