History

The story of G-BOAC

Concorde 204 was registered G-BOAC to the British Aircraft Corporation on 3 April 1974. It first flew from Filton on 27 February 1975. From July 1975 it flew endurance trials to Bahrain, Bombay, Singapore, Melbourne and Gander.

On 1 September 1975 it made four Atlantic crossings in a single day. After 141 flights it went back to BAC for airline refurbishment. British Airways took delivery on 13 February 1976, its second Concorde. The BOAC letters made it the fleet's unofficial flagship. On 24 May 1976 it became the first Concorde in commercial service to land in the United States, at Washington Dulles.

Between January 1979 and August 1980 it carried the dual registration G-N81AC for the joint Braniff service. On 19 December 1985 it recorded a ground speed of 1,488 mph.

Its last revenue service was on 18 October 2003. On 31 October 2003 it flew from Heathrow to Manchester as BA9020C, its final flight. It had logged 22,260 hours and 7,730 landings. It was de-registered on 4 May 2004. Heritage Concorde engineers briefly restored electrical power in 2011 under Project Flagship; the aircraft has not been powered since.
