About Duxford Summer Air Show
IWM Duxford staged its first regular air shows in 1973, with private aircraft owners. A June 1976 display drew about 45,000 people. The museum took over the whole former RAF station that year. In 2008 the county council agreed to sell it the runways and about 146 acres.
For around 30 years the big summer warbird show at Duxford was Flying Legends, run by The Fighter Collection. It last ran here in July 2019. The 2020 show was cancelled amid Covid-19 and a dispute with the museum, and Flying Legends later moved to Church Fenton. IWM’s own summer show now holds an early-summer weekend.
