Field brief · Live training

Every RAF fast-jet pilot passes through Valley. No. 4 Flying Training School teaches advanced flying here on the Hawk T2, after basic training on the Texan T1, and the circuit over the west coast of Anglesey is busy on any training weekday. The same aircraft you might wait all day for in the Mach Loop take off and land here in a steady stream.

The spotters’ car park at Llanfair-yn-Neubwll sits by the airfield with a view of the runway, and the Valley Aviation Society keeps a small shop there. The sand dunes at Traeth Crigyll, by Rhosneigr, look across the approach towards the sea. The Red Arrows also use Valley for training in the winter and before the display season.

Hawk T2 flying was paused after a Hawk crashed near the airfield on 23 September 2026, with both crew ejecting safely, and resumed on 8 October 2026.

Best odds

Weekdays during training, in reasonable weather. Mornings and early afternoons are usually busiest; weekends and holiday stand-downs are quiet.

Field craft

Use the spotters’ car park rather than verges and gateways. There are no toilets or café on site: Rhosneigr and Valley village have food. Never point lasers or flashes at aircraft.
