The firm

Fokker in brief

The Eindecker, with a machine gun synchronised to fire through the propeller, gave Germany a spell of air superiority. That period was called the Fokker Scourge. The Dr.I triplane and the D.VII followed. In 1919 Fokker moved the company to the Netherlands, near Amsterdam. By the late 1920s, led by the F.VII trimotor, it was the world’s largest aircraft maker. Anthony Fokker died in New York in 1939.

The Germans seized the factories in the Second World War, and Allied bombing destroyed them. The F27 Friendship turboprop entered service in 1958 and sold almost 800 by 1986. The F28 jet, Fokker 50 and Fokker 100 followed. Fokker was declared bankrupt on 15 March 1996.
