South Wales Aviation Museum
The museum at St Athan; past Cardiff Airport.
Cardiff's airport is at Rhoose, and RAF St Athan was the RAF's great maintenance base. The South Wales Aviation Museum is 12 miles south-west at St Athan. It is a working restoration hangar with fast jets on the apron, and most of it is touchable.

The Helicopter Museum is 15 miles in a straight line but across the Bristol Channel. Aerospace Bristol is 26 miles out via the M4. Both English museums are larger, but each is over an hour by road. St Athan, west of Cardiff Airport, is the easy one.
