About RNAS Yeovilton International Air Day
RNAS Yeovilton, also known as HMS Heron, sits a few miles north of Yeovil in Somerset. Its runways were finished in 1941. For years the station opened to the public each July for an International Air Day, with flying and static displays.
Yeovilton is home to the Royal Navy’s Wildcat squadrons and the Commando Helicopter Force’s Merlins and Wildcats. Helicopters were the core of the show. The day traditionally ended with the Commando Helicopter Force role demonstration, a simulated air assault. The station held the Air Day until 2019. No later Air Day had been announced as of October 2026. The Fleet Air Arm Museum, beside the airfield, stays open.
