What is on the apron at Liverpool's old Speke airport
Speke Aerodrome Heritage Group looks after the airliners parked on the apron of Liverpool's original 1930s airport — one of the finest surviving art deco airport complexes in Europe, now a hotel and leisure site behind the aircraft. Bristol Britannia 308F G-ANCF is the largest, with Hawker Siddeley HS.748s including a Dan-Air example under restoration, a BAe Jetstream 41 (G-JMAC), a Percival Prince and nose sections besides.
It is small, free and staffed by volunteers, and the setting does a lot of the work: the 1930s terminal and hangars are listed buildings, and the aircraft sit where airliners have sat since the 1930s.
