Free aviation museums in Suffolk

Suffolk’s free museums sit on wartime airfields. Martlesham Heath tested new RAF aircraft until 1939. It then became a Battle of Britain fighter station, bombed twice in 1940. From October 1943 it was home to the USAAF’s 356th Fighter Group, flying P-47s and then P-51s. The 95th Bomb Group flew B-17s from Horham, where the Red Feather Club has been restored as a museum.
