Where to see early jet-age aircraft in the Midlands

The jet engine is a Midlands story. Frank Whittle was born in Coventry in 1907; Power Jets developed his engine at Lutterworth. Britain’s first jet flew from Cranwell on 15 May 1941. Rolls-Royce flight-tested engines at Hucknall from 1934, and the Flying Bedstead made the first jet vertical take-off there in 1953.
