About this museum

RAF Elvington, a Bomber Command station flown by the Free French squadrons 346 and 347, is now one of Britain's biggest independent air museums and the Allied Air Forces Memorial. The wartime fabric survives — control tower, NAAFI, hangars — which is why reenactment days here feel less like dress-up and more like a séance. The collection has a taste for the big and British: Victor, Nimrod, and a trio of Buccaneers.
Listed inventory: 45 airframes.

Tickets convert to a 12-month pass. Thunder Days (engine runs) are the connoisseur's visit. French reviewers make pilgrimages here; bring tissues for the memorial rooms.
- “Great exhibits. Quite a range of aircraft all of them interesting. Staff were very friendly and approachable for further information. The young cafe staff were very friendly too and no less than four asked to be introduced to Finn our Lurcher.”— John Earnshaw
- “What an experience. My grandfather was on Halifaxes during WW2 and there was me up close and personal with one of the only bombers wow. The whole site is amazing and so evocative. Marvellous knowledgeable and friendly staff. Well worth a visit.”— Tim Allison
