About this museum
RAF Elvington, a Bomber Command station flown by the Free French squadrons 346 and 347, is now one of Britain's biggest independent air museums and the Allied Air Forces Memorial. The wartime fabric survives — control tower, NAAFI, hangars — which is why reenactment days here feel less like dress-up and more like a séance. The collection has a taste for the big and British: Victor, Nimrod, and a trio of Buccaneers.
Halifax 'Friday the 13th' — the world's only complete Halifax reconstruction, honouring the type that flew from this very field — alongside the only Mirage IV outside French ownership.
- Halifax III "Friday the 13th" — the only complete Halifax
- Mirage IV, the only one outside France
- Victor K.2 "Lusty Lindy" (live)
- Nimrod MR.2 (live)
- A trio of Buccaneers
Tickets convert to a 12-month pass. Thunder Days (engine runs) are the connoisseur's visit. French reviewers make pilgrimages here; bring tissues for the memorial rooms.
“Fantastic and very interesting Spent 6 hours at the museum.”— David, visitor report
